HostSolutions.ro - An Initial Review

Hi, I just wanted to give my thoughts and an initial review of HostSolutions.ro because there seemed to be some discussion but no customers coming forward with their thoughts. (I am new to the VPS world so this is really geared towards other newbies, so you veterans take what you want) I chose them for there policy on the DMCA (basically they don't care) and the price, the great price. I took advantage of their 2GB of Ram, 30GB HD, 2 CPUs, Unmetered (probably capped at 30TB) deal for about $7 every 3 months so a little more than $2 a month, I think that's pretty good on it's own on top of their liberal policies (except for Porn, they don't seem to like Porn lol). I signed up, my account was created in about 10 minutes. Their OpenVZ conrol panel is integrated in their Services panel, which is nice, just login once and has tons of languages.

And speaking of languages, twice I made a ticket and both were answered in about 5 minutes, and by people who wrote perfect English and were very kind. For example, I noticed that they only had Debian 7 x64, I prefer x86, so I installed it. It came with Apache and some mail service running, I didn't like that (I like my installations bare), so I made a ticket about adding Debian 7 Minimal, and lo and behold it appeared as an option in less than 10 minutes. Now that's service. Hopefully I don't need to contact them again, but at least I know Marin or some other friendly tech will be on the other side.

So those are the Pros, what about the Cons? Well I'm in Florida (USA) and they're in Romania so the connection is a little slow between myself and my node. My ping latencies are high 100s like 150 or more. (Doesn't affect my Wordpress sites loading though) As for general speed it's all over the place so I'll leave these tests:

CPU model : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5650 @ 2.67GHz Number of cores : 2 CPU frequency : 2666.964 MHz
Total amount of ram : 2048 MB
Total amount of swap : 512 MB
System uptime : 25 min,
Download speed from CacheFly: 9.79MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 2.32MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 1.35MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 1.83MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 8.56MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 6.76MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 2.02MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 3.01MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 2.44MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 3.52MB/s
I/O speed : 74.8 MB/s

If you have any questions or tests you want me to do, I'll see what I can do. Hopefully this is helpful for someone and hopefully the good service will continue. :)
